Mykonos Meze

Doesn’t this look delicious?!!

I just had to share this amazing food experience with you – a couple of weeks ago, I went to Mykonos Greek cafe/restaurant in Highgate.  We had been having drinks at the Queen’s pub, which is a local watering hole we go to a lot.  Mykonos is over the road, so feeling a bit peckish we wandered over to get something casual to eat. WELL, we decided to go the whole hog and have a meze “house special”.

As you can see from the photo, it was pretty darn good, and WAY too much for 2 people, which is the advertised serving size.  The full menu description is

“An outstanding meal serving 2, begins with a selection of Dips, served with crudités and hot pitta bread for entrée. To follow is a platter of deliciously grilled Seafood, including Prawns, Calamari and Occy on a rice pilaf, together with Chicken, Pork, Lamb and traditional Greek nibbles, accompanied by garden fresh Greek Salad with olives and fetta cheese. Your feast is completed with a complimentary cup of Coffee or Tea &  a homemade Filo Pastry sweet  (if there’s any room!).”

Let me tell you, there was definitely NO room for the filo pastry sweet! – not only that, we couldn’t get through the main platter pictured above anyway, especially after the yummy dips/pita bread we had first. Now legally it is a no-no, but they did kindly offer to make us up a “doggie bag”, which gave me leftovers for a yummy lunch the next day, plus they allowed us to choose 2 of the pastries to take home as well.

I can see myself using the “oh it’s only over the road from the pub, let’s go get a snack” excuse again in the near future…..

Happy Fooding!
